A trip to the snow - my tips for a day trip with little kids.

We took the kids to Lake Mountain Resort to see the snow last weekend.

Josh really enjoyed it, especially when I suggested he go down the toboggan run on his own toboggan. (One of us stayed right next to him on the other toboggan).  Charlotte didn't like the toboggans.  She preferred to check out the little snowmen and to have snowball fights. (We had been playing snow and snowball fights at home with white fluffy pompoms.)

Tips for taking young kids to the snow:

Go to the closest mountain - we had a lot of "where is the snow", "I just want to be there now" in the car on the way.
Hire toboggans, snow boots and over pants (and over jackets if required) They will only get one winter out of them if you buy them.
Get your gate entry ticket from the ski hire place to avoid the queues at the bottom of the mountain.
Get there early to get in the closest car parks - so you don't have to walk 100-200 metres carrying your gear, toboggans and tired kids and to avoid waiting in lines for food etc, because little kids get grumpy/tired in the afternoon.
Take a spare change of clothes (or two) so the kids have nice dry clothes for the drive home.
Have fun!

Get it done - Projects to finish

I saw this post by Kellie and thought what a great idea I'll do a blog post on that too.
Then I went into my craft room to take photos of my unfinished projects and the ones I'd bought the supplies for but never actually started. I took 3 photo's before I realised there were just so many things I needed to finish or even start and I'd be there forever taking photos.

I need a saying like" my eyes were bigger then my belly" but for craft projects instead!

So instead here's a list of the projects I'd like to complete by the end of the year.

2013 project life album - needs journaling, fillers and embellishments

My childhood project life album

Happy embroidery

Door knob jewellery hanger

Coin quilt - I'm up to the quilting step (it's been like that for over 2 years)

Still to be finished but not by the end of the year

Joshua's baby album

Charlotte's baby album

Convert all card fronts to actual cards

Selvedge pin cushions (and list in etsy or made it shops)

Crochet dish cloth

Christmas tree skirt

365 journal

Donna Downey album fabric album

Fairy sand castle quilt

British Guard blanket

Now there are probably a few more projects stashed around the place and I haven't included any of the fabric I've bought for particular sewing projects either.

One time at craft club....

I actually got a chance to add some more squares to my Happy embroidery at our first community craft night this week.  It was great to sit down and craft with other local crafters.

Only 8 more squares to go!

Creating my vision board.

I had been wanting to make a vision board for awhile, but never actually did it in case I mucked it up.

Guess what I didn't and I'm really happy with how it turned out.
I love the balance of words and images.

Have you made a vision board?  Do you think it has helped reach your goals?

Craft Group is happening.

So this year one of my goals was to craft more.
So far it hasn't really happened because I haven't made time to do it, but all that is about to change.
I've started a local community craft group and our first night is just over a week away.
Since I'm the organiser there is no option for me not to go - so I should get to do some craft with some other crafty people!

I'm really excited about this little group. (I hope some people turn up on the night)

Something I made

With one of Joshies stick people drawings as inspiration,
I whipped up this little necklace in just a couple of hours
(in between dinner, baths and bedtime stories).
